Well, kind of, not really, actually not very far at all, in fact you couldn’t really call it a move, more of a shimmy.
I’ve actually measured it and its just under 8 metres or about 26 feet in old money.
For four years now I have been running this business out of our family home and it started with me, a table, a sewing machine, a computer and some scraps of fabric that were lying around. Again, I’m not telling the whole truth here, the first pair of jeans that I used to line one of my bags came from my husbands “still in use” pile of jeans, something I still haven’t totally been forgiven for!
Since then I have learned an awful lot about making and designing bags and also designing fabrics. The operation grew, and our dining room became the centre of activities. It housed five tables (none of which you could dine at), a computer, a big sound system, lots of sewing machines, lots of pairs of scissors, oodles of pins and denim piled as high as an elephants eye.
Come to think of it, I’m sure I’m missing some scissors, they are the odd socks in the airing cupboard of any sewing business. I’m sure they’ll turn up in a pair of jeans sometime soon.
Anyway, back to my not so big move. It came about as we had some visitors and they commented on the large guest bedroom we had and how light and cosy it was, so in a moment of madness about four minutes after they left, we stripped the room and moved lock stock and tables into our new sewing room.

Our guests had also muttered about the lack of dining room when they were here so we have now sorted that out too. The only fly in the ointment is that our second guest bedroom is now awash with fabric, so not much room for guests to sleep but plenty of room to eat! Having said that, I’ve just realised that the only thing we lack now in our dining room is a table.

I am now delighted to be ensconced in the new sewing room, it is light and airy and warm and actually organised. Oh the joy of just turning around and grabbing a zip and a piece of fabric without wading through a sea of denim.

Now, it is time for me to go, the washing machine has just beeped telling me that the next load of jeans need to go out on the line. Oh the glitz, Oh the glamour…….
